The God of the Bible - Dr. Rolf Jacobson & Dr. Tripp Fuller
REGISTER NOW: www.prooftextme.com
Are you ready to unravel the enigmas of the divine? Or perhaps, just revel in the glorious complexity that is the God of the Bible? Join Dr. Rolf Jacobson and Dr. Tripp Fuller for an online class that's sarcastically (or is it?) titled, "The God of the Bible: An Absolutely Clear and Final Guide to Ultimate Mystery." Because if there's one thing we can all agree on, it's that the nature, character, and vision of the God of the Bible are anything but simple!
This class will take you on an unforgettable journey through the Biblical narrative, from Creation to Consummation. Our mission? To present the nature, character, and vision of the God of the Bible. Our method? Overcoming the hesitations of (post)modern, critical scholarship to highlight the aesthetic power of the divine as revealed in scripture.
ASYNCHRONOUS CLASS: You can participate fully without being present at any specific time. Replays are available on the Class Resource Page.
COST: A course like this is typically offered for $150 or more, but we invite you to contribute whatever you can to help make this possible for everyone - including $0!

Ryan, you need to know that the decline of religion in not you at all. I know of a book you need to read written by a social anthropologist in 1934. Dr. J. D. Unwin was a tenured professor at Oxford and Cambridge. His ground breaking study has never been equaled. Not only does it show why religion is shrinking, but it will also out line the collapse of our economy and the government which are all being affected by the same cause. The name of the book is quit a misnomer, but it is an unprecedented study on society trends. The book is called Sex and Culture.

Great episode, especially nice to hear someone from BC! I found the concept of "technique" to be really interesting and have mentally tried to pigtail in Jame Gee's concept of semiotic domains (modalities and design grammar) to further contextualize Ellul's what drives technique. I think there's something to be said about the shifting of a design grammar's methods and how it would effect the technique of a larger system.

Those who are reading Teilhard probably have read St. Agustin and Aquinas too, also probably well versed in the real meaning of "Salvation" not the diluted concept various denominational churches have. Teilhard was known for having a great devotion to the Sacrament of the Eucharist, and I would be very cautious about anyone saying they know better than Thomas Aquinas, just saying.

No. A whole new liturgy won’t do. The very idea and practices of liturgy itself is so much a part of the problematic civilisation. Sunday morning is a very intrinsic part of that same civilisation. Many of us who have detoxified our relationship with the transcendent by dropping all dogma and theology have long ceased to practice religion in any formal way. We pray and meditate. We fellowship, often in the wild, sometimes in ancient places, thin places, sacralised or sanctified by prayers. But to formally codify a faith, however new and emerging, would merely be to fall back into the trap of creating yet another damn religion.

"Why don't you decide for yourself what is right?" - JC The biblical prophet Elijah has returned, as prophesied, and testifies:. "Homebrewed Christianity." I like that title. But at first listen, I fear you've had too much "schooling," which can be difficult to overcome. Because, Christian schooling is largely based on the false BAD NEWS Pauline "gospel" of JUDGMENT and SACRIFICE. Nonetheless, even a PhD can be overcome by a wise man who simply reads "the words in red" and thinks for himself. Intelligence without wisdom is a boat without water. But wisdom - a gift from GOD - cannot be learned, except over the course of many many lifetimes. In any case, all mysteries have been unveiled and published in these "end times": the end of the old Cycle of Time so that the New Cycle may be born. But only wise seekers will find.

Food for thought: At the ~15 minute mark, Marvin Minsky unwittingly begins a discussion that's essentially isomorphic to the Hebrews 12 passage on Communion of Saints: ua-cam.com/video/EI0NXTrS5Pw/v-deo.htmlsi=3jAPZ21I4uh_d04O Make of it what you will, but I think Minsky's idea of "algorithmizing people" could form a solid concrete model for understanding Fr Teilhard de Chardin's abstract/mystical Cosmic Christ

After listening for about 20 minutes, I changed channels. Philip Clayton’s view attracted my attention, so I watched the program. But what a disappointment! Dr. Fuller spoke the whole time, and Prof Clayton could only say yes or no to his oratories. Who is the expert here? I don’t question Tripp’s proficiency in theology, but the program differed from what it was marketing for.

Thank you, Tripp. I just heard the news today. The Coming of God was the third book of his that I read - while studying his theology with a former student of Karl Barth - Shirley Guthrie - at Columbia Theological Seminary. The CG is the only book outside the Bible that contains a paragraph in it that literally cast me out (ekballo!) of my chair in an explosion of joy. Time to re-read all of them.

Somehow, whenever I am with theologians, we get around to how Moltmann changed us. From Quakers to Catholic Liberation theologians, he changed the church. How many people can say that? Thank you, Moltmann, helped me survive studying theology, my deconstruction and reconstruction. I spent today with one of his friends who wrote her Doctoral dissertation on his Theology of Hope; it was great listening to her stories. He was such a humble man, deeply committed to social change.

Elijah has returned, as prophesied, and testifies: Yes, Aristotle was a First Corruptor of Modern Understanding, as I fully explain elsewhere. Learn precisely what GOD is - which Max Planck figured out, and which I also explain elsewhere - and you have found the legendary "Philosopher's Stone," the foundation of understanding without which one can truly understand absolutely nothing. And one result of the corruption and lack of knowledge is that there are only two relatively tiny Christian denominations in the world that have the TRUE 'Gospel" (GOOD NEWS) of Jesus Christ. And even they are unable to accept further revelations from GOD, because that's the nature of "organized religion," which is a contradiction in terms. "Gnosis" means knowledge gained through personal reasoning and experience, and that was the original form of Christianity. Organization corrupted the Gospel, which Paul called "my gospel," because it is indeed Paul's rather than Christ's. "THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS WITHIN YOU" and every other person who will ever exist, and GOD's will is done on Earth as it is in Heaven! "Sin" is ARROGANCE and nothing more. And I've come to set the record straight; to be ignored and rejected until I am empowered (see Rev.11) - after which time I will CONTINUE to be REJECTED (as prophesied), like Jesus Christ was rejected and for the same reason: everybody already "knows" everything! But also like Jesus Christ, once I am empowered it will be very difficult to IGNORE me. "Unless ye become as little children..."
